The clarification followed a congratulatory message from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, after Adeleke’s victory in the August 15 governorship election.
Keyamo had thanked Adeleke for his public endorsement of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid, describing the governor as “a man of integrity and honour” before adding, “Agreement is agreement.”
The remark triggered reactions on social media, with some interpreting it as evidence of a private political arrangement between Adeleke and the President.
However, the governor’s campaign council, through its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, dismissed the speculation, insisting that Adeleke’s support for Tinubu was not based on any pre-arranged political deal.
According to the council, the governor’s endorsement was based on his assessment of Tinubu’s performance and economic reforms, which it said had strengthened states financially.
“Do not undermine the resilience of Osun people. There is no agreement,” the council stated.
The council maintained that Adeleke’s position on Tinubu should not be interpreted as a bargain reached behind the scenes, stressing that the governor’s support was based on what he described as the President’s performance in office.
The development comes after Adeleke, while celebrating his re-election, publicly thanked Tinubu for what he described as the President’s support for a free and fair election in Osun.
Adeleke also reaffirmed his endorsement of Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, describing the President as “a son of Osun State.”
